We address questions relating to the development, support, and (inclusive) education of young people with deafness/hearing impairments who communicate using sign language and/or spoken language.

News

  • November 1, 2025: Welcome: Jessica Dreßler, Vera Dippel, Ronja Riebel, Jana Waldhauser, and Lea Willms. Since November 1, 2025, they have been supporting the DFG project "ElSiE" as student assistants.

  • October 23, 2025: The office will NOT be open on the following days in November: Monday, November 3, 2025; Wednesday, November 5, 2025; Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

  • October 23, 2025: On Monday, October 27, 2025, the office will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Our team consists of deaf and hearing individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds. Find out more about our team members here.

Research

Our research combines basic and applied research: we study the development of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adolescents who communicate in sign language and/or spoken language. We focus on linguistic, cognitive, and social-emotional development processes as well as issues of sex education and the prevention of sexual violence. We also evaluate new teaching and training concepts for educational practice.
